Roles of potassium in a dog's body
Lena Skov••Quick read

Potassium is an essential mineral, sometimes referred to as an electrolyte. It helps muscles, nerves, and the heart function properly. Learn more here.
Working together with sodium, potassium moves water in and out of cells, helping to prevent dehydration. It supports muscle contractions needed for movement, including the heartbeat. Potassium also helps convert food into energy and enables nerves to send signals throughout the body, not only to control movement but also to sense the environment.
Potassium can be found in salmon, bananas, potatoes, clams, spinach, squash, and apples.
