Learn why vitamin A is vital for dogs. It supports healthy eyes, growth, immunity, and helps puppies thrive with stronger defences.

Vitamin A plays many roles in the health of dogs.

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin (dissolves in fat) stored mainly in the liver until the body needs it. It is essential for healthy eyes (especially night vision), early physical development and growth, and a strong immune system.

Puppies are born without the ability to store vitamin A. They receive it from their mother’s milk and therefore need higher levels of this vitamin for growth than adult dogs.

Vitamin A also supports the immune system by aiding the production of white blood cells, which help fight infections caused by viruses and bacteria.
